Well, it is really a physics/chemistry problem.
If I recall correctly, for every 10 degree drop in temperature, chemical actvity is halved. That would mean that a 30 degree drop would mean that the battery could deliver 1/8 the current.
Rember the problem Canon had at the Olympics when their camera batteries froze up and the cameras stopped working?
Your car cranks over easily in the summer when the battery can supply maybe 500 amps. In the winter you may only get 50.
