There is also a function that is included in the mas (at least on the
recorder model) called AVC (for auto volume control) that may help you
to normalize the level. This option is available in the sound settings
menu in rockbox.

Try MP3Gain (http://www.geocities.com/mp3gain/). It changes the volume
of the MP3 itself, trying to make the perceived volume equal (optionally

maintaining the relative volumes between tracks in an album). A
must-have program, IMO.
