I don't have a recorder, but is that kind of battery drop normal for under
an hour of use?

Hove you replaced the batteries with new cells, and made sure they are
fully charged overnight? Maybe your particular unit is faulty if it eats
batteries like that.

Perhaps you have already investigated this, if so, please excuse my
suggestions.
