I know there's nothing to do about the long boot time, but I thought I'd
suggest a feature that would mitigate its annoyance, at least for me.

I find that the startup time is long enough that I turn my attention
elsewhere while it's starting. Often by the time I remember to look at
it, it has gone back to sleep. If it were to make a little noise about
the time it flashes the Rockbox logo, that would be great.
