OK, I don't want to belabour this forever, as it seems clear I'm in the minority on thinking configs should be translated. That said, your objection, above -- about different Rockbox versions, applies whether or not the config's translated -- just substitute an incompatible english.lang, or incompatible hardcoding.

Yeah, ok, it's awkward. But I only speak English, and have all the various .lang files in my .rockbock. At 2KB each, they're hardly worth getting rid of.

I've got a patch that does this (and only this, it doesn't use the language strings). I'll upload it when I've played with it a bit more (I just got a Zaurus PDA, and I've been distracted).
