Subject: something about battery level + remaining time estimation

something about battery level + remaining time estimation

Hello,

It often happens here that people are irritated if the battery level
that Rockbox displays changes.

I'm asking myself why people can't accept that this is only an
estimation, calculated from the voltage (which really is going up and
down quickly when hdd goes on/off etc.). I cannot go and ask the
battery "How full are you right now?".

The point that the estimated value is shown exactly doesn't mean that
the estimation is exact. And it will never be exact. But I don't think
that we shouldn't only show "battery full", "battery 50%", "battery
empty" or show a remaining time with an accuracy of only an hour.

So, if someone knows how to improve the estimation (especially for the
FM), read the docs and the code, improve the code and send a patch to
the patch tracker. If not, don't be so irritated that the values shown
are going up and down sometimes.

P.S.: Sorry if I misinterpreted mails and the irritation is because of
a strange behaviour on the FM that is really a bug or something. I
don't have an FM, so I can't test it.

Bye, Uwe.
