Date: Wed, 14 May 2003 00:21:10 +0200 (MEST) Tonight we opened a Recorder (I had to do the 8MB mod for Dirk to have a reason), had a look and did some measurements on the Flash chip select line. We found that the Flash chip inside is a SST39VF512, more modern than the SST37VF512 in the schematics. Most important is that this does not need a programming voltage, so the software _can_ write to it! Other features are 100.000 cycles endurance and sector programming. On a side note, the footprint has address line A18 connected, so it is prepared for a 512KB chip (twice the size). The original firmware copies itself to RAM at startup. After doing so, it only accesses the Flash once every 13 ms, doing only a single cycle. Maybe there is a timer interrupt vector still active or so. Rockbox is not accessing the Flash in normal operation. So in summary, it looks pretty good for a "Rombox". Jörg -- +++ GMX - Mail, Messaging & more http://www.gmx.net +++ Bitte lächeln!
