RE: Archos build quality......

I just recently bought an Archos (over the new Nomad because of USB hard
drive and because of rockbox), and after a good few weeks of research
over user coments on the 'net, I decided to get the plain Recorder
instead of the FM Recorder.

From what I can see, yes, there have been a lot of build problems with
the FM. Some people get perfect builds but there have been a lot more
complaints than there should ever be. On CNET, the FM Recorder got I
think 70% "thumbs down" whereas the plain FM got about 60% "thumbs up".

With my plain recorder I have been pretty happy although I've only had
it for a week. Having to transfer my collection in shifts because the
power isnt sustainable with the adapter was bloody annoying, but now
that that's sorted out I've been really happy. The hard drive makes a
funny clicking sound from time to time and am really scared its going to
crash, but, so far, I'm a happy customer.

Also FWIW from user coments Archos tech support is quite useless. Even
when I enquired about using a different car adapter with the FM Recorder
didn't get any real helpful info from them. But hardware aside if
you'll be using Rockbox, you'll get the help u need and regular updates.
