I think you have a point there, by applying to a patent you could potentially force anyone who uses your invention to
distribute under the GPL, that would be cool.

However, I am not sure it is worth the time or money.

Thanks for all the interesting feedback.

I guess that I forgot that the GPL is designed to encourage
the spreading of ideas. I didn't know whether it encouraged the
spread of its ideas into proprietary software however.
