This of course is a reason to question such a text display. Not only does
this require that the text fits with very little scrolling, it also requires
that the user is watching the screen at the time and that he/she actually is
capable of reading and understanding the text in this short period.

I disagree. However you solve this in the language file, you will STILL get
this problem in the software as sometimes it is just impossible to make a
phrase to fit within the 11 characters and still mean something that the user
will understand. In those cases, the problem is not in the translation, but
in the software that rushes too fast for the users to keep up.

These cases need to be fixed. Again and again until gone. IMHO.

But this is a very relevant point. Many of those kinds of displays were
designed to work nicely on the Recorder screen and then adjusted to work
similarly on the Player screen. Since the two different displays are so very
different, we should consider rethinking how things are done on the two
models, perhaps using the Recorder way on a Player screen is a bad idea.

This credits text is a fair example. It should probably be made differently.
A long horizonysl scroll is probably much more suitable for its display.
