Plus, they had a deadline and we don't. Their task was to write something that worked OK in a short time. On the other hand, most of our time have been spent reverse engineering the damn thing. If we only had the hardware documentation, we would have done it much quicker. Also, there is no money in updating the firmware for old products. They have to abandon the Jukeboxes, or they would be out of business. They need to move on and release new (badly programmed) products.
