I'm afraid, no.

It can be reprogrammed, if you take it out, use a "real" programming device
on it, and solder it back it. Not really practical.

It can be replaced, with SMD soldering skills and the correct part at hand.
That's what I'm gonna do, remember that I also have a bad chip in my box.

The chip is hard to get, I've ordered a sample but am still waiting for
that. I don't know of any regular supplier who sells small quantities. You're
welcome to find one, we need a SST39VF040-70-4C-WH (that's the bigger one with
512kB, there must be some reward ;-)
Speed grade -90 instead of -70 is also OK, if you can get, that's
discontinued from the manufacturer.
