I have also gotten disappointing results with new major brand name 1800 ma
batteries, but it was more like 4 - 5 hours of play time, not 2 1/2.

Have you set the battery capacity correctly in the config? The default is
1500 ma, and that setting may make your charge status read higher than it
is.
