Sounds like the problem I observed when I first tried the Rockbox Recorder on my FM (before an FM build existed). The recorder build interpreted FM power levels as too low, and immediately shut off.

You might see if you can get further with the wall-wart plugged in; you still won't get far if thisa is in fact the problem.

You say that you used the fm .ucl? I know that the rockbox builds had to have some code added/moved to accomodate flashing, code that performs hardware setup that previously was handled by the Archos flash firmware. Perhaps only recorder versions of the setup code was added/moved, and not the FM versions?
