I'm confident that it makes no difference here running Rockbox from flash or disk, but the difference is probably that you don't use the Archos charging any more (except you force it by pressing F1 when plugging in). This Archos charging fells pretty "beefy" to me, with some internal inductor humming. Rockbox doesn't make such noises for me, so maybe charging "lighter". I admit that I don't understand the complicated charging code. It looks like it will only start if the voltage is below a certain theshold. Anyway, I've committed a beta charging screen now. It comes up when plugging in while the unit is off, pausing the boot process before the disk is initialized. (Should fix the deep discharge problem.) Pressing On continues the boot, as well as plugging USB. Removing the plug during that screen will shut the unit off. The recorder spins up the disk by hardware default, so I have to deliberately shut it off within the charging screen. I hope it works for FM, too, we want no spinning disk while charging.
