<scott666> wouldnt you get the same effect by just staying on the menu screen instead of the WPS?
<hardeep> scott666: yeah, you would. Or by changing the wps to something that doesn't require updates (no progress bar, peakmeter, etc.)
<scott666> and no tags that need to scroll
<hardeep> yeah

scott666 is (mostly) correct: staying on the menu screen would allow you to avoid most of the costs of thewps screen.

That said, you wouldn't get wps updating when you did press the buttons, and the buttons wouldn't control playback (volume, fast forward/rewind, play/pause).

You'd get some (how much is the contested question, but Daniel is probably right whewn he suggests that "some" is "most") of the savings using a non-scrolling, non-updating wps config, but you'd still be paying for save_settings when the track changed. And you wouldn't get scrolling and updating when you did want them.

Sigh :)

I should never have publicly announced how the patch worked. ;) Damn you idc-dragon! May St. George get you and your little dog too! ;)

And then sold it with some "magic" dongle to be plugged into the headphone port: "Magic battery life extending headphone extender cord only $9.99! (requires special software build)".
