i've not been following this thread, i presume someone has mentioned the
disk-spindown timer in the options. if you are going to spend 15 seconds
reading a screenful of data before you ask for the next bunch of data, set
the disk spindown timer to about 15 seconds!

I have mine set at 3 seconds and just suffer the loss. what would be much
nicer would be the option
"do not spin down whilst directory browser is active"
