First, I tried to cut off the silence at the beginning and at the end of each song, but that didn't work, because I never knew if a had cut off enough or not. Then I used MP3DirectCut (on a windows platform) to connect all the mp3s in the right order to one big mp3 of the whole album (still with small gaps between the songs). In this big file, it's possible to mark the gaps and prelisten how it sounds if they are skipped. This way, I was able to adjust exactly what I wanted to cut off. But, I think there was still some "information" cut out, too. You have to cut on frame boundaries and most of the time, you lose information if you cut one frame off, but you have silence if you leave it in. The album above was a live album with applause between the songs, probably that's why the song transitions are inaudible now.
