A startup mode would reveal some nice possibilities. To have it fully
configurable would probably satisfy even the most configuration-hungry,
and here are some ideas on that:

F1 while starting is no doubt a good way to reach the original Archos
firmware, and feels kind of safe to leave unconfigurable, but how about
using F2 & F3 for other things, with separate configuration for starting
(1) by connecting the DC adapter, and (2) with normal ON?


(1) start by connecting DC adapter
DC_IN_when_ON: *charge* | charge_and_resume_play_if_idle | charge_and_start_record_if_idle
DC_IN_when_OFF: *only_charge* | start_and_charge | charge_and_resume_play | charge_and_start_record
DC_IN_disconnect: *as_before* | leave_on | shutdown
DC_IN_with_F1: *original_firmware*
DC_IN_with_F2: only_charge | start_and_charge | *charge_and_resume_play* | charge_and_start_record
DC_IN_with_F3: only_charge | start_and_charge | charge_and_resume_play | *charge_and_start_record*

(2) start with ON button
ON_with_F1: *original_firmware*
ON_with_F2: nothing | *resume_playing* | start_record
ON_with_F3: nothing | resume_playing | *start_record*

(*default*)

Yeah, it looks like quite a mess of options.
