That is certainly not the opinions of many of the Rockbox core developers.

The available space for custom programs within the MAS is much too small to
fit any really advanced program, even if we would get every tiny bit
documented and explained.

So, if I would guess, anything that goes beyond mere changing of the mp3
playback, it will never be possible to do on the Archos without hardware
modifications.

Just check the size of the OGG integer player code and then check the
available space for custom programs in the MAS. It is a bit like getting a
Blue Whale into your living room fish tank.

Back in the early days of Rockbox we found a guy who actually had done
"microcode" coding on the MAS and we emailed him to ask for help, but he
declined as we couldn't offer him any money and he didn't feel like helping us
for the fun of it.
