I used no beer, but a stereo microscope and SMT soldering gear. The worst part are the wires, that takes time to do nice and clean: http://joerg.hohensohn.bei.t-online.de/archos/8mb/archos8mb.jpg I've done it twice now, but won't run a business on it. What a pity that Archos didn't prepare the PCB for an alternative footprint. It woudn't have costed extra material nor space. (With the flash, they did prepare for the double capacity chip.) To my opinion, the mod is quite rewarding. The Archos "feels" so much better with spinups happening a lot less frequent. It's just the way it should be firstplace.
