It seems to me that if the processor in the Archos could even produce a beep
sound, that it could be programmed to produce synthetic speech.
Sort of the equivalent of using the PC speaker with that little DOS utility
called: vGreet which used a synthetic speech produced through the PC
speaker.

I can remember synthetic speech on the apple 2e, or even on one of the old
ataris.
