No big deal as long as you are not a HAM, but if you are, the FCC can always
pull your license.

Illegal to power it up while attached to an antenna in the US. You can
output
the antenna into a dummy load for research or educational purposes. You can
also tune down the transmission power down to about 500mW with a low-gain
antenna, and if you tune to a station with no active local channel above or
below your target frequency (e.g. 101.1 if nobody is using 101.3 or 100.9)
and
you don't broadcast any vulgarity before 10pm or so, you can probably slip
under the FCC radar. Worst that can happen is a cease and desist order
and/or
confiscation of the transmitter for a non-egregious offense.
Hell, they sold Mr. Microphone for decades! :)
