What I'm "hung up on" is common courtesy. I participate in several lists
and on the other lists it is customary to thank people when they try to
provide a handy tip (e.g., from the Exact Audio Copy list: "Thanks, this
little trick is worth knowing.").

I'd rather not have any more "heartfelt" thanks in this thread, but it would
be a pleasant change to see people say "thanks" more often in the future.
