Rockbox mail archiveSubject: Survey wrapup (who has a non-V1 boot ROM?)Survey wrapup (who has a non-V1 boot ROM?)

Date: Sun, 28 Sep 2003 21:50:52 +0200 (MEST) Hi and thanks to the participants, seems there are not too many out there, only 3 reported. Together with the prevously discovered ones that makes 9. Stupid me: These days I found out that the ROM dump is identical to the the first part of the flash dump. Which leads to the conclusion that these boxes have (or use) no boot ROM at all, have instead the flash mirrored to address 0. And having a closer look into the flash this makes sense, it starts with a vector table, then code. This is bad news, unless the boot ROM is hidden and can be re-enabled, these boxes have no such thing as a recovery option via UART boot. On the other end, for most people this probably would make no practical difference, the required mods are not suitable for everybody anyway. Developing a working dual boot loader for these would require me to temporarily modify my box to optionally start from flash_at_0, too. If it's not OK, I could switch back and UART-reflash. This is days of work (including the .rock changes), I'm afraid I'm not gonna go ahead with it. One more thing worth finding out: maybe these boxes have a SH7032 CPU, the romless version with double IRAM size, instead of the usual SH7034. Has anybody opened it up? Would also be interesting to re-enable the boot ROM, can be done with resistors on the mode pins. Or I'll add some code to the H/W info to find out IRAM size.
