Now apply that to spam. Why don't people just stop sending spam?

Apply that philosophy to virus's.

How about installing patches? Why don't users just install patches and
fix the holes out there? Why don't they just upgrade their versions of
their software to fix the security holes? Because it is a pain in the
ass!

That is why every single system administrator out there learns to
control the environment. When you are dealing with lots of variables,
you learn to use programs like stripmime.pl, or install virus checkers,
or spam filters.

yeah, it is easy to say "let's all do this", but that will rarely work.
However, if you say "go ahead, send what you will and we will resend
the corrected material" then you have the difference between a system
that works, and a system that works well and satisfies its users.

A few minutes worth of administration time saves a TON of bitching and a
few seconds time hundreds.
