Why not back off the bleeding edge just a bit and buy the tried and true
Sanyo or Energizer 2100Mah batteries. These are not pushing the physical
limits of component thickness, and are certainly less prone to
catastrophic shorting as was described in this forum.

Personally, I coulnd't tolerate having to screw around with an external
charger, and for less than $10 a set of four, who cares if I don't
properly condition the batteries and get a few extra cycles out of them?
