There is a flaw with all flashed boxes:

When the box is powered on, the disk is on by hardware default. If we only
want to charge and plugin the charger, this is still happening. The charging
screen powers it down again (this works only for Recorders by now). So briefly
the HD tries to spinup, and the power consumption of that is too high if
your battery is flat, since the charging current is less then the HD drain. The
unit won't start, you'd have to charge it externally.

For recorders, I added code to the flash bootloader to avoid this: the disk
power is already cut by the bootloader if it detects a plugged charger. This
goes much quicker, the disk hasn't moved by then. I'd like to do something
similar for FM/V2, but don't know a good way to shut down the disk for those
whithout implementing lots of ATA protocol, they can't control disk power.
Until then, please avoid flat batteries or your LiIons need a "jumper cable"
(external charge). Irony has it that this is difficult for LiIons, but easy for
the Recorder's AAs.

A change in the bootloader requires a full reflash with the
"firmware_flash.rock" plugin, unfortunately. (A regular ucl update would change only the
rockbox part.) As a bonus this updated bootloader contains my minimon already, a
rescue feature.

So please get the new Recorder firmware files from:
