Subject: Lifespan of a hard drive in an mp3 player?

Lifespan of a hard drive in an mp3 player?

Does anyone know how long we can expect a hard drive an Archos to last?
IMO mp3 players put relatively little stress on the drives, it's read
for a few seconds, park for a few minutes. My guess would be a MTBF
(mean time between failures) of a few years, less if it gets bumped
often while reading (i.e. jogging with your player).

I went to a seminar recently on hard drives, it's amazing they work at
all. To put it into perspective, the height at which the disk's head
flies over the platter is equivalent to a 747 flying over a runway at
the height of the thickness of a sheet of paper.

just paranoid.
