First I gotta give huge thanx for Rockbox. I am constantly amazed at the
stuff you guys can make it do.
I had been running version 1.4 for a long time and just in the last few
weeks came back and found sooo much new cool stuff has been added. So much
stuff in fact that it has taken me a few days just to play with and
understand how to use most of it.
I have a flashed recorder20.
I was wondering though, how most people would feel about a few Changes to
the GUI. For example,
The Off button: (This may be covered in request #619667 and #781217)
While browsing through the directories there is no "Go back to the root"
button. You have to always browse back up. I noticed that the off button
causes the song to stop playing if your browsing and playing a song, but
just out of habit, I keep finding myself hitting it thinking it is going to
take me back to the root folder. This brings me to the point of
configurations. I was wondering how people would feel about custom GUI's.
For me, I would like to have the off button always take me back to the root.
If not the off button then maybe another?
This would also apply when I am browsing the settings under F1. When I am
browsing several sub settings deep, I would like to hit the off button and
go back to the root settings. And finally while in games, it would be nice
to be able to hit the play/pause button and pause the song, or unpause it.
Oh and speaking of games, It would be nice to be able to save your game. At
least the current level your on.
F2 and F3:
It would be so much nicer if F2 and F3 were customizable. Two of the
settings on F2, I use from time to time, but none of the settings on F3 I
have ever used. Here are 3 settings on each button that are locked in and
could be used for so many other things. Maybe a cfg file that would contain
what shows up on F2 and F3? Maybe let the user choose from several choices
in the settings some where? Maybe even hit F2, then hit the on button PLUS
the directional button (that they want to change) to be able to choose
between different choices that would then stay as the default choice?
Browsing a playlist verses playing it:
I loved this idea. Has it gone any where?
I am an intermediate VB programmer and a (very) beginner C+ programmer. I
have played around with the source and even made some custom builds back
when it was version 1.3, so I don't mind attempting to make some of these
changes myself, but with me being a beginner, I am leery about screwing
around with code that so many people use. Most of these changes seem to be
fairly simple to make, but I would hate to pull guys from some of the really
advanced stuff just to do something I could attempt to do.
