I have a Recorder with original 20GB drive.

I turn it off always while a song is playing, but I Pause first to avoid a horrible noise
from the drive if I just press Off without doing so.

Maybe my drive has a bad sector where the settings are stored?

Would defragging it help?

Or doing a chkdsk /r from the xp command prompt?
