The software is copied to DRAM, same memory situation in both cases. In principle it is possible to run directly from flash (and save memory), my bootloader is prepared to do so, but we haven't tried yet. Flash access is slower than DRAM. > AND, has anyone in this situation ever programed a flash rom and then > installed it? Yes, me for example. Irony had it that my box wasn't flashable. I exchanged the chip and programmed it with the UART boot mod. You should be able to find postings about it. A few other people followed that, I send them my spare chips. But now I'm out of those. The surgery is not so easy, you need SMT soldering equipment and skills: http://joerg.hohensohn.bei.t-online.de/archos/flash/flash_upgrade.jpg Jörg -- +++ GMX - die erste Adresse für Mail, Message, More +++ Neu: Preissenkung für MMS und FreeMMS! http://www.gmx.netReceived on 2004-01-10 Page template was last modified "Tue Sep 7 00:00:02 2021" The Rockbox Crew -- Privacy Policy |
