1) Yes I did. It's not so much as volume... I mean I can change to sound reasonably loud(I personally leave my rockbox at a comfortable level of 64 on the volume settings). but... there's a certain lackness to it. Not sure if the original firmware has a different default settings for bass and treble, but I noticed that the original firmware has a slightly noticeable different quality to the sound. I can't really explain it as I'm not that knowledgeable in aspects of sound engineering.

2) I don't understand what you mean by an example. I thought I had provided one... Here's a more detailed one.

For example, I could be listening to track 7 when 14 seconds(random place) into the song, the audio either dies(but the progress bar of the song still moves) or Rockbox skips to the next track. If I go back to that song, it'll always be at time 14(or wheneever it was, the time position itself is random, but once it occurs, it ALWAYS occurs at that moment). If I then go to the original .ajz file provided with ARCHOS(the original firmware), the file (track 7) plays completely without any errors. What I'm trying to say is that... under Rockbox, sometimes I encounter errors while playing(very low random occurrence). I don't know what's the 'cause of it, maybe someone here had a similar experience?

1-> Did you tried rockbox's sound settings (bass trebble, loudness) ?
2-> Can you send me (not on the list) an example, I've got a FMR , rockbox 040210 ? I can't code, but I'm curious...

While I was merrily listening to MP3s on my ARCHOS FMR(they help me code), the FMR experienced some sort of malfunction. audio would stop and/or song would abruptly end and jump to another song. This wasn't random(that is, if I located that song and rewound, it would occur again at the same spot).

I thought maybe the HD was damaged... but if I rollback to the original firmware, the MP3 plays correctly. And I noticed that the volume is better on the original.

    I'm using Rockbox version 040204-1843

Comments to any issues I've addressed would be greatful.
    Summary
        1. Sound seems "fuller" on the original than rockbox
        2. Sometimes Rockbox has trouble playing MP3 files, but when rebooted with the original firmware, FMR(not rockbox) can play the files in question in its completeness.
