Rockbox mail archiveSubject: faster flash startup, please test the daily buildfaster flash startup, please test the daily build

Date: Thu, 11 Mar 2004 09:27:11 +0100 (MET) Hello, following my own thread: http://rockbox.haxx.se/mail/archive/rockbox-archive-2004-03/0330.shtml (Linus fixed the "dual spinup", but still I wasn't reaching the original time) I was having a closer look at the startup time of flashed Rockbox and did a change to the ATA driver. Saves 2.5 seconds boot time with my box, now it resumes in ~4.5 seconds. Please test if this also works for you, especially if your disk is configured as slave or you have a picky drive which had startup problems (ATA error -xx) with the early flash startup code. No disk corruptions to be afraid of, that's a different construction site, the fast sector reading is still disabled (booh, Jens' latest is twice as fast). Facing the upcoming Rockbox 2.2 release this is a very last-minute fix, we need to know if this can stay. Thanks for testing. Technically speaking, I have removed a second reset of the disk (a reset includes waiting for the disk to get ready). First thing the ATA driver did was two resets, one for master disk, one for slave, because at that time it's not known what kind of disk is installed. Previous understanding was that the reset of the absent disk should take no time, because it is immediately ready, but it in fact did take 2.5 seconds. Current assumption is that the device setting doesn't matter for reset, so we did two full resets and can save one.
