Subject: Rockbox Recording Problem - Any Ideas?

Rockbox Recording Problem - Any Ideas?

I have the Archos Jukebox Recorder 15, and have flashed the latest 2.2
Rockbox into it. I then took the additional advice about changing to the newest
daily build, about 2 days ago- so added that as well.
I use the recorder to record sermons at my church in 'on the fly' mp3s. It's
a simple line out stereo jack directly from the PA system tape out jacks. I've
been doing this for many months with no problems at all.
Until today.
I hooked it up as normal, line in, and when it came time to record, I turned
the unit on.
Immediately there was a loud discharge of static, noise and all hell breaking
loose. Noise you wouldn't believe. The sound man grabbed for the unit, ripped
the wire out, and we contemplated blown amps, blown speakers, but at least
that didn't happen. However my unit did suffer a fall after being yanked off the
machine for the awful noise it was causing.
I turned it off, then back on.. then decided to check the recording settings.
Yep, set as usual for the line input source. I plugged it back into the pa
system, and the soundman ready at the mains, turned them down while I turned it
back on. Yikes, more awful noise. I turned the unit off again. The church
service was quite distracted by this time.
I studied the controls again, looking for the settings that were different in
2.2 from 2.1, and the only thing I could find was a new option called
'Pre-Recording', which I had set optimistically to 20 seconds..
I turned Pre-Recording to Off, and left the unit on. I had to leave it on
because the saved config kept toggling back to the way I had it set. Then I
plugged it back into the PA system, with the sound down, and when the mains were
brought up, this time there was silence, as it should be.
I pressed record, set the levels, and pressed play, and was once again able
to record successfully.
I don't know what happened, but I hope you can address this issue in some
way, as I love everything (else) about your program. :-)

- hoping for a quick solve..
-Jim
