What I described is a simple strategy for adding
Chinese support into existing 8bit software. This
method will cause European characters to be mapped
into the Chinese code-space.

I am guessing Apple use Unicode where there is no
overlap between character encodings.

Converting Rockbox to Unicode requires a large effort.
It also requires everyone to buy into the idea. Until
recently, there seems to have been almost no interest
in Chinese Rockbox so there wasn't a mandate for
proposing a Unicode kernel.

I guess if enough people want this then the core
Rockboxers might be persuaded.
