best would be, to have TTS engine in rockbox itself - wouldn`t it?
many of us know good old "SAM" on c64 - i wonder that no solution is available for the much more powerful sh1 cpu. (ok, qualitative
TTS is a little bit more complicated than just stitching phonemes together)

maybe , this is a possible "advanced" feature for the fictive "next generation mp3 player running rockbox" build by an asian company
(currently being discussed) ;)
they could add a TTS chip to that device (btw: are there any advanced dedicated TTS chips, nowadays?) or they could use a more
powerful cpu that could do TTS in software.
