Subject: RE: Fall back method for directories with no .dirname.mp3
From: Aman Singer (

Hi, Brian.
        You said
Wouldn't it be easier to just process those folders to put
clips in there? I've done that with my .rockbox folder, playlists and
videos folders, etc.

You're undoubtedly right. However, it's sometimes convenient and
sometimes not to do a .dirname placing. It isn't so good, for example, when
you're transferring from a friend's system, when Rockbox itself makes
recordings, and so on. It's by no means vital, as finding out can be done,
as I said, by going in the directory and looking at what's there, or by
changing the voice directories option to spell. However, since we already
have a fallback, in the speaking of numbers, it would be simpler, IMHO, if
we had one that was more descriptive.

Wouldn't it be easier to just process those folders to put .dirname.mp3
clips in there? I've done that with my .rockbox folder, playlists and
videos folders, etc. All of my folders, actually. =) Since I don't have
very many folders outside the music file directory tree, it only takes a
couple of seconds to do all the rest. I usually create and/or rename
folders when my recorder is hooked up to the PC anyway, so it's not at
all inconvenient. There are also flags that can be changed in the
vbscript telling it not to overwrite existing files if you just want to
reprocess all the folders on your Archos. That way it'll only process
newly added folders and leave all existing clips intact.
