Archos Recorder 20 is now a 60 hour portable Tivo!

I had posted this in a thread about .rvf video files for the archos, but I
thought others might be interested in how I am using my Archos. Basically,
it has become a 60 hour portable Tivo! Here is what I do:

I have a Satellite PVR. It records shows just like a Tivo onto a hard disk.
There are software programs (see in yahoo groups) that dumps video and sound
from the PVR to a .mpeg file. You can select 1 show or all the shows on the
dish. These files can them be converted using the new .rvf DirectShow
filter into a .rvf video file for the archos. The process is not too hard,
and can be automated to dump 30 hours of shows overnight. Then copy the
files to your Archos, and you have 30 hours of television.

I am quite pleased with the quality of the video as a result. It is
entirely digital from satellite to archos, so no quality issues other than
the small screen of the archos. I have gotten used to it and am able to
watch shows quite nicely. The sound is great, high quality stereo, which
really enhances the viewing pleasure!

With the 20G drive, I can fit about 60 hours of TV, but I prefer 30 hours of
TV and leaving 10G for MP3 files/music. Perhaps an even better use would be
to record a bunch of MTV videos and put them on the archos.

Thanks to the great developers here, and especially that mastermind behind
the video plugin!!
