RE: new extension for talkbox directory clip: ".dirname.tbx"

Hi, Glenn.
You can certainly use the ren command with wildcards. What you can't
do is have several files with the same name in the same directory. That is,
let's say I had
        audio books.mp3
        music.mp3
        radio.mp3
in the same directory. I can't say
        ren *.mp3 .dirname.mp3
        What would happen is
audio books.mp3 would be renamed .dirname.mp3. When DOS went to
music.mp3, it would say "can't rename, .dirname.mp3 already exists" and that
would be that.
I'm still confused about why you want to put periods in front of all
your file names. You don't need to, in that the only file that needs a
period in any folder is the .dirname.mp3 file.

No Aman,
the ren command works in the folder you are in, so it should rename files
using wildcard characters.
I have always used wildcard characters in renaming files, but just never
with a dot in front.

Hi, Glenn.
Again, I'm a bit lost on why you'd want to do this. If you use the
script to generate the names, you wouldn't need to do this. In any case,
though, even if the period were removed, and you tried
ren *.mp3 dirname.mp3
it wouldn't work, since the file system would only rename the first
mp3 file to dirname.mp3. At that point, it would see multiple dirname.mp3s
and stop renaming anything.

Yes, I think that the dot causes problems, as I tried the following:
ren *.mp3 .*.mp3
and it renamed all my folder MP3 files with a period in front, but it left
off the first letter of each folder.

what happens if there are 2 *.tbx file though?

i don't see why the . in front is such a big deal in the first place...
