Hello Aman & all,
You'll be glad to know that the re-set idea did the trick.
Thanks.
I'm keeping these arrow directions in case I have trouble in the future.
BTW, I re-sent the message you wrote to myself with the following
correction, just to make it easier to navigate the directions while carrying
them out.
***
You might want to try this. It'll reset your settings
menu,
2 down,
1 right,
4 up,
1 right,
1 up,
1 right,
2 up,
play twice. Then left arrow out of there if you still don't have usable
voice.
Make sure to wait a second when you hit menu. Alternatively,

anyone know of a way to eliminate the settings from the PC? I know they're
stored in a sector on the disk, but am wondering how they can be removed
since, as I understand it, they're not in a file.
Aman

You want interesting, here it is:
I tried changing .dirname.TBX to .dirname.tbx
No difference.
So I started messing around:
First, I browsed to a config file in my root and ran it, since I have never
done that, and I thought it would help.
wrong, no voice at all, no menus, no anything.
So I went out and got today's Crystal.voice and today's daily build and
loaded them both in.
Then I started up, and now...
All of the folders speak, but my voice menus don't.
And that is the opposite of before.
So I tried going:
menu (F1)
down 2
right one
up one
right 2
and up arrow and play button.
And I left arrowed out.
Still no voice!, but still I have speaking folders.
Strange!

Hi, Brian.
You said
Could there be some rockbox settings that affect this somehow, then,

like 'sort case'? Otherwise I'd think you were posting this 11 days too
late. =)

Sort mode in main/general/file view doesn't seem to change that
these directories are spoken, though it changes the display order in the
browser (as I assume it should). Is this the sort case you spoke of?
As for 11 days too late, I'm afraid that one is over my head. I'd
love to hear how Glenn's experiment turns out, though. The word interesting
doesn't do this justice.
Aman
