Just to add my opinion (in case anybody cares...):
I prefer having the clips within the mp3 directories to prevent any
synchronization problems. I don't care about the name and the extension
of the clips, as long as it's more or less self explaining and not too
cryptic.
I don't see any problems with dotfiles, even for windows users. Normally
you create them once with a script and don't care about them afterwards.
Copying and moving is no problem with the explorer once they are
created. However, if there's a majority voting for an underscore-name,
it's ok for me, too.
