This is only because we compress it harder each time stuff gets added. Rockbox itself is about 200k, then it needs space for all its data structures, the largest being directory and playlist buffer. All this leaves about 1.6 MB for the mp3 buffer, varying with the settings of above buffers. But we even had people who coudn't use the voice feature because their setting were too large. Ontop of the voice file comes your worst-case .dirname.tbx, this also has to be loaded in the buffer. So 1.5 MB voice file should really be the maximum.
