Line-level input instead of using the microphone...
like inputting from something coming over the stereo,
like the radio, or cassette, or even a turntable with
a preamp on it.

It's the digital input/output (S/PDIF = Sony/Philips
Digital InterFace)..for example, my
receiver at home supports digital i/o, so I can
connect JBR digitally to the stereo and it will
do the digital-to-analog conversion.
