Subject: Recorded voicefont file available (alpha)

Recorded voicefont file available (alpha)

From: Christi Scarborough <christi_at_chiark.greenend.org.uk>

As a way of dipping my toe into the world of Rockbox development, I've
created a voicefont file using samples I recorded myself. The source
files are 44kHz WAV files (sorry if they're a bit hissy - my soundcard
is not that great) which have been encoded using LAME at VBR quality 0
and 16,000kHz sample rate. If there are more suitable settings, please
let me know.

Unfortunately, I don't have a Jukebox to test on at the moment, so I
have no idea if it works. Would some kind soul give them a spin for me
and let me know what they think?

The file is available at

http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~christi/public/rockbox/

The voicefont itself is

uk_english_spoken_voicefont.zip

there is also a small patch to voicefont.cpp to enable different
messages for entries in english.lang that have no voice text associated
with them. It's a moderately dirty hack, but it enabled me to see which
filenames I'd actually got wrong.

Hope someone finds this interesting/useful.

Thanks,

Christi
