Re: Motorcycling, Archos, Hearing, and safety.

Wow! I didn't mean to start a tempest in a teapot with my rather dry and
technical questions. I appreciate the concern of those who don't believe
one should operate a motorcycle while listening to music. Yes, motorcycles
are tricky and require considerably more concentration that cars. That
being said, I have ridden for many years without music. I have recently
begun taking some rides with music and enjoy it immensly. I always wear a
full-face helmet and ear protection. Always. With this gear, I really
can't hear much anyway, unless it is quite loud. I would never be able to
hear a car engine, only a horn or siren. This is all I can hear with or
without music. In addition, I live in rural New Hampshire. There is rarely
a time that I have to ride in traffic. When that is the case, I don't bring
my music. I think I'm pretty safety conscious, and weigh the risks. Music
is wonderful during some of the lonely commutes I have. I am as careful as
I can be. If I wanted more safety, I would probably have to give up the
motorcycle. It is worth it to me.
