The analog line out function is achieved via the earphone jack (left side of the top panel). Somebody in the core team said that adjusting the volume setting to 93% achieves a 0 dB output on this jack, if I remember correctly. The jack on the right side of the top panel is for a coaxial (not optical) digital SPDIF connection, in or out. For example I use it for recording the sound of DVDs, direct from my DVD player, setting the source in Rockbox recording options on "Digital In/Out". I hope this is clear enough. Cheers.
