Date: Thu, 17 Jun 2004 19:30:19 +0200 hi! got my xclef 800 a.k.a i.beat500 a.k.a ripdrive today - 299 eurodollars :) just opened the package some minutes ago - on a first view this really is a MARVELOUS piece of hardware, but - the firmware seems to be a piece of crap, if we compare that to rockbox. ok, maybe it's not tooo bad, but i cannot judge neutrally about this, because i've got too much used to rockbox. there is basic functionality, and the average user would be happy with it, but i think i will get very frustrated, soon :D first distinctive negative feature: the boot time! damn, thats sooooo slooooow! >Third, If you don't see any source code, this is a normal situation. A part of the >OpenJukebox web site is limited to the Developper Team. Due to some laws from some >countries (Like the US DMCA Law, Patent laws ...), we don't publish publicly our >research results because there is some copyrighted material. so why do you research ? if you fear lawsuits, your research is nonsense. if you cannot publish your work, who should have a profit from that ? a closed developer group ? come on, you really think you will move forward this way ? my xclef is a device i own, and NOBODY in this world tells me, what i may do with that, and what not. if someone (sorry, i'm too dumb for this for doing it good!) hacks & reverse engineers that device and writes software for it - where is the problem ? personally - i don't give a shit about dmca, drm, tcpa and that stuff.! i think, most of that laws&technology, adopted from a dying industry, is real nonsense. (BTW: if someone understands german, a very cool book is made for free download some days ago: mix, burn, r.i.p at http://www.heise.de/tp/deutsch/html/buch_10.html . please read gilmore, too! http://www.toad.com/gnu/whatswrong.html i would be very happen, if you would make your project "open" ! that should be no problem, imho. rockbox never had a problem - and even the avos guy who was threathened by archos has no problem, afaik. did you follow xboxlinux ? go - speak with those guys! if you need some webspace and need someone who want's to take responsibility for that - please let me know. sorry if i'm being rude here - but - if you will continue to stay closed with your project, maybe it's worth thinking about you calling you guys (respect, though!) "coward" or "liar" ;) roland ps: if we have rockbox running on that device, i think that would probably be the "definitive mp3 player" for me. pps: >http://openjukebox.free.fr/ why do you call it "openjukebox" , hosted on "free.fr" when you keep your work CLOSED ? ;) >Hi, > >I'm one of the Xclef Openjukebox project's developper.
