They fit poorly in either position.

That is the worst thing Koss ever did to the 'Pros. I HATED that switch.
Even the merest brush against anything would cause it to mute. I superglued
the buttons to keep them from actuating. When I learned that Koss had fixed
this error with the PortaPros, at least, I sent my Portapros back under the
lifetime warranty and got new "muteless" phones.

The Sportas don't sound nearly as good. I have both. I finally popped the
transducers off my set of Sportas and installed them in some ear muffs to make
sound suppressing muffs for listening in noisy environments. They work fine
for that.

FWIW, I saw recently that Circuit City was carrying the Portas. Price was in
the $30 range, as I recall. Accounting for shipping and sales tax, the price
is pretty close to mailorder with the coupon. Instant gratification has its
value too :-)
