I wonder what the story is on this. So far I have come across at least 4
people that have followed the directions to the tee and despite this, their
units will not talk. One of them is a 20gb JukeBox Studio 20, 2 are JukeBox
20 recorders, and not sure about the fourth one.

Anyone have any ideas as to what could be different about these units that
simply refuse to talk?

I followed all of aman's steps, but for some reason it won't talk. I have
everything turned on, and the english.voice file is in the langs directory
in the .rockbox folder. I am now running today's daily build. thank you,
